The fifth annual Nevada's Big Give charity drive will be held statewide on Thursday, March 10.
The Big Give is an online donation drive designed to raise as much money as possible in a 24-hour period for various statewide and local charities.
This year's event begins at midnight on March 10 and runs until 11:59 p.m. Thursday with online donations starting at $10. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
Local Carson area charities signed up to receive donations this year include the Boys and Girls Club of Western Nevada (BGCWN), the Northern Nevada Children's Museum, the Nevada Humane Society, Catmandu feline rescue, and Food for Thought, Inc., which is leading the Childhood Hunger Prevention cause.
The BGCWN, in fact, stands to double its fundraising dollars from donations made through April 1, thanks to a community challenge sponsored by Dick Campagni Toyota Scion.
The local automobile dealership will match all donations made to the BGCWN between Feb. 1 and April 1 up to $10,000. This includes donations made during Nevada's Big Give on March 10.
The BGCWN has currently reached about 20 percent of its $10,000 fundraising goal, and online donations made through Nevada's Big Give tomorrow could be a significant shot in the arm for the local youth organizaton.
Every registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Nevada, like the BGCWN, is eligible to sign up to receive donations through Nevada Gives, the nonprofit organizer of Nevada's Big Give.
Since 2011, the Big Give has raised more than $2 million from over 15,000 donors in just 96 hours of giving.
Nearly 500 charities have participated and benefited from the program in the past five years.
About 93 percent of a donation reaches the selected charity directly.
